Gift Policy

1. Purpose

The purpose of this Gift Policy is to establish guidelines and procedures for the Kono Bui’ Foundation (“the Foundation”), a non-profit/NGO organization dedicated to mental health recovery in Sierra Leone, West Africa, regarding the acceptance and management of gifts, donations, and grants from individuals, organizations, and corporations.

2. Principles

The Foundation operates under the following principles when receiving gifts:

  • Alignment with Mission: Gifts must align with the Foundation’s mission, objectives, and values related to mental health recovery in Sierra Leone.
  • Ethical Standards: The Foundation adheres to the highest ethical standards in accepting and managing gifts, ensuring transparency and accountability.
  • Legal Compliance: All gifts are accepted in compliance with relevant local and international laws and regulations.
  • No Conflict of Interest: Gifts will not be accepted if they present a potential or perceived conflict of interest with the Foundation’s mission or compromise its independence.
  • Donor Intent: The Foundation respects the donor’s intent, as long as it aligns with the mission and values of the Foundation.

3. Types of Gifts Accepted

The Foundation may accept the following types of gifts:

  • Cash donations
  • In-kind donations (non-monetary gifts)
  • Securities, stocks, and bonds
  • Real estate
  • Bequests and planned gifts
  • Grants and sponsorships
  • Other gifts as deemed appropriate by the Foundation’s Board of Directors.

4. Restrictions on Gifts

The Foundation will not accept gifts that:

  • Violate any applicable laws or regulations.
  • Are too difficult or costly to administer in relation to their value.
  • Would result in an unacceptable financial or operational burden.

5. Acknowledgment and Recognition

The Foundation will provide timely acknowledgment and appropriate recognition to donors, in accordance with their wishes, as long as it is consistent with the Foundation’s values and guidelines.

6. Governance and Accountability

The Foundation’s Board of Directors shall oversee the acceptance and management of gifts. The Finance and Audit Committee will review the financial aspects of gifts and ensure compliance with this policy.

7. Record Keeping and Reporting

The Foundation will maintain accurate records of all gifts received, including the source, amount, and purpose of each gift. An annual report summarizing gift activity will be presented to the Board of Directors.

8. Confidentiality

The Foundation will protect the confidentiality of donor information and will not disclose any donor’s personal information without their consent, except as required by law.

9. Review and Revision

This Gift Policy will be reviewed periodically and revised as necessary to ensure its effectiveness and alignment with the Foundation’s mission and values.
